She pays homage to the legacy of Stax by covering classic repertoire from its historic catalog. Wanting to be as respectful and true to the tradition as possible, Melissa made the pilgrimage to Memphis to record her new album in Willie Mitchell’s historic Royal Studios. Her experience included recording with Willie’s son, Lawrence ‘Boo’ Mitchell and the Hi Records Rhythm section, comprised of Rev. Charles and Leroy Hodges, Archie ‘Hubbie’ Turner, Michael Toles, James ‘JRob’ Robertson. Melissa also added some new lyrics of her own, as well as incorporated an assortment of iconic Stax samples in the production of the album.
